Solution

Janette's Solution

Because of the weight bearing problem, the containers will be half filled with polystyrene packing materials.

Decking and white marble chippings are to be used to create a subtle but patterned floor which will be brighter than the grey concrete yet still allow drainage.

Re-cycled wooden containers used along with galvanized metal ones to reflect the light will be filled with compost containing water retaining granules to prevent the pots drying out quickly in such an exposed spot.

A reflection pool with globe drilled and lit, creates night time interest as well as the sound of trickling water.

Bamboo screens are going to provide a wind barrier at the open end of the balcony, while a live bamboo plant adjacent to it will provides some pleasant sounds as the wind rustles through its long foliage.

To finish some evergreen planting will soften the hardness of the surroundings.
