With today's modern materials and with such a large variety of plants being available, a garden can combine mystery, adventure and exhilaration for children whilst looking stylishly designed.

Example: The Family Garden

In this garden we divided it into three distinct areas, a lawned play area where games could be played with plants that are robust enough to withstand the odd football. The garden is sited in a disused quarry and the side needed shoring up, which was carried out with terraced sleeper beds attached to a board walk to give a dry pathway.  As this area faced west it was the ideal place for an arbour to watch the sun go down with a glass of wine after the children had finished their play in the playhouse with its accompanying stockade. The third area was left wild to provide a variety of habitats for birds, frogs, butterflies and other insects and although educational it is a favourite area. The garden provides a safe play environment but it is also a place where everyone in the family can relax and enjoy the sights, scents and sounds of the natural world.
