Although
a courtyard garden can be sheltered and pleasant, there may also
be problems with heat and dryness. |

Example: The Courtyard Garden
|
|
This
scheme was commissioned to provide a temporary garden until the
client retired and sold the adjoining barn for conversion. The
proposed conversion had already had an extension added which was
nearly a metre above the existing ground level and this was decked
with overhead beams added on the exterior walls, which were
swathed in clematis and roses, providing a viewing platform into
the rest of the garden. The rills and the water spout provided not
only sound but also helped to cool the static air enclosed within
the courtyard and the additional trees added shade to an area that
otherwise would have been very hot.
