Narcissus 'Trevithian' - Daffodil

Named after the golden haired youth, who was changed by the gods into a flower, after he had gazed so longingly at his own image in the waters of a stream, in the belief that it was his long lost sister. Also linked with narcotics.

Traditionally blooms on the 1st March, St David's day but was not adopted by the Welsh as their national flower until 1911 when Edward, was invested as Prince of Wales.

Prince Charles as the Duke of Cornwall is paid one daffodil annually as rent for the untenanted Islands of Scilly, paid by the local Environment Trust.

In 1992 during the British Election Campaign, Margaret Thatcher was attacked with a bunch of daffodils. Her aggressor accosted her with the pretext that the flowers were a gift.
